Dave Long

Dave Long is the sports columnist for the Hippo Press and well-known granite state sports personality for many years. First as a Hall of Fame basketball player at Plymouth State, then as a college basketball coach, talk show host, writer, producer and award-winning broadcaster. Not to mention a lover of all events from below the Tarrier Line and being an all round sports triviologist of a high order.

He was the creator of the ECAC TV Sports Network that broadcasted college football, basketball, and hockey on Fox Sports Net and NESN and covered the Boston Celtics as a producer-commentator for the Celtic Central TV magazine on Comcast Sports Net during the Rick Pitino years. He also was part of the team that opened and named the Ted Williams Museum and National Hitters Hall of Fame in Hernando, Florida.

The passion is golf these days where he’s birdied, bogeyed and (gulp) triple bogeyed his way around 58 of the 93 courses in the state with a pledge to play the remaining 37 before it’s over – with some (but not all) of his favorites being – Wentworth By the Sea, Owls Nest in Campton, Canterbury Woods and Francestown Resort. And since you can tell math was never his specialty – it’s best you handle the scorecard duties next time you’re in the same foursome, which hopefully comes after he amends the actual remaining number of un-played NH golf courses to be 35, not 37 as previously stated, on the road to reaching his Interstate-93 magic number!
