Policy Expert Preston Brashers: What Can NH Learn from Virginia Tax Policy?

During the 2025 campaign in New Jersey and Virginia, the Democratic candidates ran on affordability (and hating Trump). The candidates promised policies to help the middle class.

Since taking control of the of every part of the Virginia State government, the 2026 legislative session began just over a week ago, and already the Democrat-controlled House and Senate have proposed expanded taxes on property improvements, lodging, event admission, employee benefits, equipment and electric generators, plastic bags, fantasy football, firearm suppressors, local sales, income, and investments. So what can New Hampshire learn from Virginia’s tax policy? What some candidates say and what they mean when they are elected are usually different.
