Gregg Pemberton: The Facts About Crime and Law Enforcement in DC
Gregg Pemberton: The Facts About Crime and Law Enforcement in DC

Greg Pembereton is a 20+ veteran of the Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), and was elected by his peers to serve as Chairman of the DC Police Union.

Gregg joins the show to discuss some of the factors that led to the need for Federal assistance. MPD is 800 officers understaffed. Officers are forced to work mandatory overtime shifts, often working double shifts and missing days off.  The DC City Council has ignored the needs of the men and women of the MPD.

The DC City Council passed the Revised Criminal Code Act of 2022 (RCCA), which included provisions that eliminated most mandatory minimum sentencing requirements for violent crimes, significantly reduced maximum penalties, and granted the right to jury trials for most misdemeanor offenses.

Gregg also shares that it appears that crime statistics have been altered and that violent offenses have been improperly downgraded and recoded in a manner that would suggest less violent crime.

Gregg reported that since the MPD has been reinfoced by Federal Law Enforcement and National Guard, there has been an immediate decrease in crime in DC. There is currently a Bill in Congress that would roll back the Revised Criminal Code Act of 2022 and provide additional support for the members of the MPD.
