Adam Montgomery has been convicted of second-degree murder in the death of his 5-year-old daughter, Harmony. A jury returned its verdict Thursday after a two-week trial. Adam Montgomery’s attorneys previously acknowledged his guilt on two lesser charges but said he didn’t kill his daughter. Adam Montgomery’s estranged wife testified that the body was hidden in various places including a car trunk, ceiling vent, cooler and a freezer before he disposed of it. Police believe Harmony Montgomery was killed nearly two years before she was reported missing in 2021. The body has not been found.
But Prosecutor Benjamin Agati said at a news conference that the trial does not end the search for Harmony. He said that after analyzing the mileage Adam Montgomery took with a rental truck into Massachusetts, there are about 26 miles that he could have covered where her remains might be.
Harmony Montgomery’s case has also exposed weaknesses in child protection systems and provoked calls to prioritize the well-being of children over parents in custody matters. Harmony was moved between the homes of her mother and her foster parent’s multiple times before Adam Montgomery received custody in 2019 and moved to New Hampshire.
