CONCORD, N.H.- Lawmakers on both sides of the isle are calling for the removal of State Rep. Ellen Read D- Newmarket who told police a centuries-old provision in the New Hampshire Constitution says lawmakers can’t be arrested going to or coming from the State House after she was stopped twice for speeding.

Among those calling for her removal is Rep. Kimberly Rice R-Hudson who spoke with WMUR-TV and said, “We are not above the law, and we should be held to a higher standard.

The growing demand for Read to either step down or be removed from her seat comes after she was pulled over twice for speeding after leaving the State House, first in December 2024 along I-93 in which she was reportedly traveling at 107mph but claims she was only going 85. And again, in June of 2025 in which she received a ticket for doing 92 in a 65-mph zone in Londonderry.
