MANCHESTER.N.H.- Officials say efforts are underway to improve the state’s response out of a number of violent incidents at the Sununu Youth Services Center.

Speaking to the Executive Council Wednesday at Nashua Community College DHHS Commissioner Lori Weaver highlighted efforts that include hiring another 10 staff members and the deployment of body cameras which would be worn by staff at the Sununu Youth Services Center.

Weaver also spoke about how $269,000 will be made available to purchase specially designed furniture for the new, smaller youth treatment center on the grounds of the former Hampstead Hospital that will replace the SYSC and expected to be open by the end of this year.

Weaver also mentioned how the department will also start reviewing offers of private consultants to who would be tasked with giving an independent review of all policies and procedures regarding the treatment of detained juveniles.

Wednesday also saw the Executive Council unanimously confirmed Ayotte’s interim choice of Allen Aldenberg to be the acting child advocate for the next 90 days.
