CONCORD, N.H.- The Executive Council has given unanimous approval to spending $2 million in state Medicaid Enhancement Tax surplus funds to set up mobile food pantries to help those impacted by the Government shutdown.

The council acted quickly Wednesday so the New Hampshire Food Bank and management from Catholic Charities can begin discussing how to implement the plan to deliver food to the roughly 75,000 families who receive SNAP benefits.

Officials note that it will take about a week to get the program up and running.
