Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office warns of the latest telephone scam

MANCHESTER, N.H.- The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is warning that scammers are calling people pretending to be members of the department.

Authorities say they’ve already received about a dozen reports regarding this specific scam, in which people pretending to be officers are demanding payment.

As the caller ID may say the call is coming from a local number, but the scammers are reportedly using what’s called a spoof number to hide their location.

Anyone who receives one of these calls should hang up and avoid engaging with the caller.

Sheriff Brian Newcomb has issued a reminder to citizens that at no point would anyone from his office ask for a payment over the phone through a gift card, cryptocurrency, wire transfers or payment apps.
