Lainey Wilson has a brand-new song out today.

It’s called “Kinda Love It.”

And apparently marriage is treating her pretty well.

The song arrived Friday, October 9, and it’s a fun, upbeat country love song about falling for exactly the kind of guy you always said you wouldn’t.

You know the type.

A little wild.

A little unpredictable.

Probably not somebody your mother would immediately approve of.

But somehow…

You love him anyway. AOL.com

And here’s an interesting name in the songwriting credits.

John Mayer.

Yes, that John Mayer.

The Grammy-winning singer and guitarist helped write “Kinda Love It” alongside Lainey, Kid Harpoon and Jon Decious.

Mayer also plays guitar on the recording. Whiskey Riff

That’s becoming an interesting musical friendship.

Earlier this year, Lainey and John collaborated on “Phone, Keys, Wallet,” another song inspired by the idea of finding somebody who loves you despite all your imperfections.

That recording featured John’s unmistakable guitar playing.

And apparently the two enjoyed working together enough to do it again.

But this time, the song is a little more playful.

Lainey sings about falling for somebody who might not be the safest choice on paper.

Somebody who keeps life interesting.

Somebody who makes her wonder what she’s gotten herself into.

And yet…

She wouldn’t change a thing.

Naturally, fans are wondering whether the song is about Lainey’s husband, Devlin “Duck” Hodges.

And while the lyrics don’t specifically name him, there’s a pretty good reason people are making the connection.

The former NFL quarterback can be seen driving an ATV with Lainey riding along.

Which seems like a very Lainey Wilson way to make a love-song video.

Some singers would rent a beautiful mansion.

Maybe shoot something on a beach.

Lainey?

Get the four-wheeler.

Let’s go.

Lainey and Duck married in May after several years together.

And she’s been increasingly open about how their relationship has changed the way she approaches writing love songs.

For years, Lainey built her reputation singing about heartbreak, independence, small-town life and the determination required to chase a dream.

Now she’s discovering that being happy gives you plenty to write about too.

And there’s another interesting connection in the new song.

Lainey uses the old country expression about having a tiger by the tail.

That’s a phrase country fans may recognize from Buck Owens and his 1965 hit “I’ve Got a Tiger by the Tail.”

It’s a fun little connection between classic country and modern Nashville songwriting. Country Rebel

But Lainey doesn’t sound particularly worried about the tiger.

She sounds like she’s enjoying the ride.

And here’s the best part for our New England listeners.

Lainey Wilson will be in Connecticut tomorrow night.

She’s performing at Mohegan Sun Arena on Saturday, October 10, at 7:30 p.m.

The venue currently lists tickets as available, although that can change. Mohegan Sun

So New England fans could potentially hear “Kinda Love It” live just one day after its release.

That’s pretty good timing.

Lainey’s career has already included major awards, sold-out shows, hit records and collaborations with some of the biggest names in country music.

Now she’s adding another interesting chapter.

A new husband.

A new song.

John Mayer on guitar.

And a music video involving an ATV.

Somehow, it all makes perfect sense.
