Man charged with assaulting Exeter Police Sergent ordered held in preventative detention

MANCHESTER, N.H.- A judge has ordered the man charged with assaulting an Exeter police sergeant remain held in preventative detention.

According to court documents Joshua Horgan was arrested Tuesday afternoon on four charges: three counts of simple assault and a single count of resisting arrest; and police note that Horgan also spit on a pair of officers.

Police say the arrest came during an investigation into a recent a hit-and-run in which Horgan was a person of interest in, but when approched by police he refused produce his identificaion despite being told by his coworkers he needed to speak with police.

From there Horgan met with police and that’s when the alleged assault occurred, which resulted in the sergent needing multiple stitches.

Authorities note that the sergent has since been released from the hospital and that Horgan is due back in court next week.
