CANTERBURY, N.H.- A Manchester man has died out an apparent drowning in Canterbury.

According to State Police around 1p.m. Wednesday troopers responded to a report of a swimmer who had gone under the water in the Merrimack River but didn’t resurface.

Authorities say Robert Batchelder,19, was found in the middle of the river and pulled to shore where rescue crews performed live saving measures and then transported him to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators say Batchelder was out swimming with his coworkers, when he began to struggle before going under, as multiple folks on the scene attempted to help him and he went under before people could reach him.

At this time authorities don’t have reason to believe the death to be suspicious.
