READING, M.A.- The CEO of Market Basket is shining some light on the internal drama within the company and says two senior executives who were put on leave with him, back in May, have both been fired.

Arthur T. Demoulas says Operations Director Joe Schmidt and Grocery Supervisor Tom Gordon were let go by the Store’s Executive Board for their roles in a recent controversy plaguing the local grocery chain. However, Demoulas also went out of his way to say how he disagreed with the decision to let the men go, saying it was “…among the worst decisions that could be made by this board.”

Following this recent action the store’s Executive Board also issued a statement saying that Schmidt and Gordon were fired for “insubordination, making false and derogatory remarks about the company and people associated with it, and inappropriate communications with colleagues.”

According to the board back in May Demoulas and the men were among of group of people placed on leave over concerns they were planning to create a situation which would lead to a work stoppage.
