Apparently there is a dress code for a Megan Moroney concert.

There’s just one strange detail.

Megan never created one.

As her Cloud 9 Tour has traveled around the country this summer, fans have increasingly shown up dressed in some combination of pink, glitter, cowboy boots and cowboy hats.

Enough of them are doing it that Moroney says the audience can look like a giant sea of pink from the stage.

And she loves it.

Moroney says there was never an official announcement telling fans what to wear.

Instead, the look grew naturally from the visual world surrounding her latest album, Cloud 9.

The pink aesthetic began taking shape while she was writing the record. Once the song “Cloud 9” came together, Moroney says she could suddenly picture what the entire album should look and feel like.

Fans apparently got the message.

Very clearly.

Concertgoers began coordinating outfits with the album’s colors and imagery, and social media did the rest.

Now getting dressed for the show has become part of the event itself.

And there’s something else happening inside those arenas.

Moroney says she’s been surprised by just how happy the atmosphere has become considering how many of her songs are about decidedly unhappy things.

Heartbreak isn’t usually a party.

At a Megan Moroney concert, apparently it can be.

She describes the shows as a positive and inclusive environment where fans can dance one minute and get emotional during a song like “Wedding Dress” the next.

That’s become increasingly common with major tours.

Fans don’t simply buy a ticket anymore.

They make friendship bracelets.

Plan outfits.

Learn specific dances.

Coordinate colors.

And turn the concert into an event that starts hours—or sometimes weeks—before the artist walks onstage.

Moroney’s fans seem to have created their version without needing instructions.

The Cloud 9 Tour continues through the fall, including European dates before wrapping in Belfast in October.

So if you’re headed to one?

Apparently the dress code is simple.

Pink.

Sparkles.

Boots.

And maybe waterproof mascara.

Some of those songs are still pretty sad.
