MERRIMACK, N.H. – Voters Tuesday backed the proposed town and school budgets.

Citizens passed a town budget of $42.7 million which increases property taxes by 25 cents to $4.15 per $1,000 assessed value, which adds up to about $113 more on a home valued at $450,000.

Voters also overwhelmingly backed a $96.9 million school budget which officials note will have no effect on the tax rate, as it is a slight reduction from last year’s budget of $97.1 million.

Town officials say with the budget passed as is, they won’t have to worry about cutting employees or services to make their $41.9 million default budget.

School Board Chair Lori Peters previously said passing the school budget would help them attract educators, since candidates want to work in districts that have support from voters.
