MANCHESTER, N.H.- Residents in New Hampshire and Massachusetts were rocked Saturday after a fast-moving meteor in the Earth’s atmosphere sent a loud boom that was heard in parts of the state.

NASA told ABC News the meteor, also known as a “fireball,” was detected around 2:06 in the afternoon and was traveling at a speed of 75,000 mph.

Officials at NASA say the energy released is estimated to be equivalent to about 300 tons of TNT.

A NASA spokesperson said the fireball was not associated with any currently active meteor shower but said it was a natural object and not space debris or a satellite re-entering the atmosphere.
