NASHUA N.H.- Firefighters responded to a first alarm building fire on Temple Street Thursday afternoon.

A Nashua Police officer patrolling the area spotted smoke coming from the building at 50/52 Temple Street and immediately notified dispatch.

Officials credit the working smoke detectors with alerting the residents.

More than a dozen people and several pets were evacuated safely.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
