SAU 39 Superintendent placed on paid administrative leave following recent arrest

NASHUA, N.H.-The Superintendent of schools for Amherst, Souhegan Cooperative, and Mont Vernon School Districts has been placed on paid administrative leave after he was arrested earlier this month.

According to Nashua Police Michael P. Berry Jr was taken into custody on January 17th and charged with a simple assault out of a domestic violence incident.

District officials made the decision in an emergency meeting earlier this week and say they were informed that the incident did not involve any members of the SAU 39 staff, students or members of the education community.

In the meantime, assistant superintendent Steve Chamberlin has been named acting superintendent.

Following his arrest Berry was book and later released on $300 bail.
