Student IDs to be accepted during Midterm elections

MANCHESTER, N.H.- It turns out Student IDs will be accepted during the midterm elections after all.

Ahead of the November Primary voters without a government issued photo ID will be allowed to use their student ID to register and vote.

The news comes following a 50-page order issued by U.S. District Court Judge Joseph Laplante who said Secretary of State David Scanlan went too far with directive this past April telling all election location clerks that student IDs were unacceptable for anyone looking to cast a ballot.

In his order Laplante went on to say that directive was too all-encompassing because the Legislature has yet to strike from the books a second state law that lets voters show student IDs or other documents to prove identity if they lack a photo ID.

The judge did note that the Republican-led Legislature did amend this law with a second bill last spring that removed the affirmative right of a moderator to verify someone as eligible to vote even without documentation because he or she knew the individual.
