A man accused of shooting a police officer after firing at his family Saturday was shot and killed following an hours long manhunt in Raymond. The investigation began early Saturday afternoon, when police were called to a home on Ham Road for reports of a man shooting at family members. Police said 38-year-old Matthew Masse fired at responding officers as they made contact with him. A Nottingham police officer was wounded in the leg but will be ok.

Authorities say officers located the Masse, in a wooded area hours after residents near Ham Road were told to shelter in place. When officers attempted to take Masse into custody, an exchange of gunfire occurred. Masse was later found dead. Police said a long gun was recovered near him.

An autopsy is scheduled for early this week, according to the attorney general’s office.
