DURHAM, N.H.- The University of New Hampshire is eliminating 36 positions within the school community.

According to an email from President Elizabeth S. Chilton the school has laid off 23 employees, eliminated 13 unfilled positions and reduced the hours of 10 employees as it looks to cut it’s operating costs by approximately $12 million, to achieve a 3% across-the-board spending reduction.

Chilton also notes that departments across the campus are also reducing their spending by scaling back professional development, student employment, building hours, dining hall hours, travel, printing, and other operational services.

The staff reductions follow the $18 million in cuts to state aid to the University System of New Hampshire, which includes UNH, Plymouth State University, and Keene State College.
